15 @ Quad is an Inspiration from a traditional courtyard house at macro and micro levels. As the name Quad itself is an abbreviation of a Courtyard surrounded by buildings; each residence opens up into the large Court at the center at the same time the individual residence has the opportunity to open up inwards combining the advantages of both compactness and efficient courtyard house having maximum daylight and breeze. The Site plan is structured in a way that all the 20 units opens-up into the courtyard. The Trapezoid Shaped site opens up into the large courtyard surrounded by Plots/Residences, each shifted at 15 degrees, maintaining each resident’s privacy, hence breaking the common stereotype of having parallel plots. This, helped in having a back garden for each unit. Each Three Storey Unit consisted of a Triple Height Sky-Lit Courtyard that provides breeze and light throughout the day. All the habitable spaces are formed around the courtyard to maintain physical as well as visual interaction all day around. The Units are categorized into 2 types having additional space for the back garden, though the built mass remained the same; i.e Type A plot size: 6.6 x 20m and Type B plot size: 6.6 x 21m. The dual-tone color palette that is white-washed walls and pastel blue fins in the balcony creates a playful facade around the court. The sloped roof mass resting on the blue fin opens outward with a narrow slit window that continues upwards and becomes the skylight, hence giving a 180-degree vision.
