THE HOUSE OF THREE SEASONS

Rooted in strong conceptual influences, the house of 3 seasons creates an immersive experience for one to reflect upon and enjoy the spontaneity of the surrounding environment. Looking at the house as a whole a curvilinear wall cut through the entire site hence unveiling the space from the entrance as we move towards the house. A straight wall perpendicular to the curvilinear wall acts as a guiding element toward the entrance.  The name House of 3 seasons has come from the way the house has been designed: a respite in summer at the northern deck, winter at the southern deck, and a courtyard within the house itself. The massing of the house is designed in such a way that the southeast edge of the building has been elongated which casts its shadow on the northern side whilst keeping the landscape shaded. Further to break the solidity of the mass the triangular portion has been cut off and replaced with a transparent surface. This thus helped in keeping indoors and outdoors connected visually; one can gaze at the stars at night from inside; one can experience the monsoon rains under transparent volume. The landscape of the house depicts the map of the river Mindhola.  As it is a weekend residence, leisure is a priority, special attention was given to the configuration of the outdoor spaces, and the way in which the architecture gives scale to these spaces. The house has open floor planning where the private area has been detached and the rest of the spaces remain within the open floor plan. The hammock at the north of the house above the swimming pool acts as a canopy and a perfect space for night gazing at the stars. The entire structure of the house rests on the I-section which rests on circular concrete pilotis forming a framed walkway at the winter deck.  The project is therefore an exercise in implementing a residence with a relatively minimal program are harmoniously and delicately integrated into 3 season decks and landscaping – these are the true protagonists.
