Tactical Urbanism - Bardoli
The Station Road in Bardoli, one of the town’s central arteries, has long been overshadowed by issues that compromise the urban experience: relentless traffic congestion, haphazard parking, and chaotic pedestrian flow. Street hawkers occupy precious road space, inadvertently contributing to an ever-present bottleneck. Our team conducted an in-depth study to identify and analyze these challenges, culminating in a solution-focused design proposal for Bardoli Nagar Palika.
Core Elements of Proposal:
1. Optimized Right of Way: Redesigned lanes for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists to reduce congestion.
2. Organized Parking Spaces: Designated areas to manage traffic flow and minimize unauthorized parking.
3. Multi-Utility Zones: Dedicated spaces for vendors, preserving clear pathways for pedestrians and vehicles.
4. Enhanced Green Cover: Tree-lined dividers and landscaped medians to enrich the urban landscape and support ecological benefits.
5. Street Furniture & Lighting: Thoughtful placement of bollards, seating, and lighting for comfort, safety, and ambiance.
6. Clear Signage: Wayfinding boards and area markers to enhance accessibility and strengthen the area’s identity.
Our proposal frames Station Road as an inclusive, elevated urban landscape, redefined through a lens that prizes the human experience. Phase 1 sets a precedent for Bardoli, illustrating how urban design, grounded in functionality and aesthetic, cultivates both civic pride and emotional resonance.
More than 40% of the road is disturbed due to unorganized parking and lack of civic sense
