The Oblique
The oblique comprises of 3 rectilinear blocks intersecting into the planner surface (which acts as a sun block from the direct sun coming from the south west) sitting on the “urban kund”. The task was to push the boundaries between nature, architecture, and experience, to create a place where guests feel a connection to sublime the natural environment. The name oblique has come from the planner surface that has been tilted and the edge facing the river front has been tapered to break the continuity. The site is located at the banks of Mahi Sagar including a bridge named sindhrot bridge passing through the off centre of the site. To further block the visual connectivity from the bridge to the built-up, plantations have been introduced parallel to the edge of the bridge. A tilted lattice frame structure has been designed at the eastern part of the site which defines the reception area and the gym at the upper floor. To create a visual beacon passing through the space above the urban kund , a visual axis has been created from the lattice frame structure to the river front. The river front has been designed in such a way that it creates a “urban promede” and acts a recreational space at the river bank for the visitors.
